About IIT Bombay

Established in 1958, the second of its kind, IIT Bombay was the first to be set up with foreign assistance. The funds from UNESCO came as Roubles from the then Soviet Union. In 1961 Parliament decreed the  IITs as  ‘Institutes of National Importance’. Since then, IITB has grown from strength to strength to emerge as one of the top technical universities in the world. Located in Powai, one of the northern suburbs of Mumbai, the residents of the institute reap the advantage of being in the busy financial capital of India, while at the same time enjoying the serenity of a campus known for its natural beauty. Department Of Chemical Engineering

BTech.

Duration- 4 Years

Admission

The minimum academic qualification for admission through JEE is a pass in the final examination of 10+2 system or its equivalent referred to as the Qualifying Examination. In case the relevant qualifying examination is not a public examination the candidate must have passed at least one public (Board / University) examination at an earlier level. Those appearing in 10+2 final or equivalent examination may also appear in JEE (Screening Test and Main Examination) for consideration of provisional admission.

The +2 level examination in the 10+2 pattern of examination of any recognised Central / State Board of Secondary Examination including Central Board of Secondary Education New Delhi and Council for Indian School Certificate Examination New Delhi.

Intermediate Science or Two-year Pre-University Examination conducted by a recognised Board / University.

First year Examination of a degree course of any recognised Indian University / Institute following a Higher Secondary Examination in the 10+1 system.

Final Examination of the two-year course of the Joint Services Wing of the National Defence Academy.

Chemical  department offer direct admission to the limited number of candidates solely based on higher GATE percentile. However a candidate may not accept the direct admission offered and choose to appear for written test/ interview in discipline of one’s choices.

Candidate with a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering or equivalent and with a valid GATE score in Chemical Engineering  is required for admission to the M.Tech. programme in chemical engineering.

Ph.D.

BTech with Honours

Apart from the normal BTech curriculum, students have an opportunity to increase their depth in Electrical Engineering by undertaking additional courses. By completing 24 credits (approximately five courses) from a broad list of prescribed courses,a student can earn Honours in Electrical Engineering.

Dual Degree   

Dual Degree programme is offered in two specialisations: (1) where MTech is awarded in Communications and Signal Processing and (2) where MTech is awarded in Microelectronics. In both the dual degree programmes, MTech thesis forms one of the most important components of the programme.

Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) programme is a flagship programme of the department’s research. All PhD scholars contribute in a significant way to the research activities of the department. Students after graduating with a PhD degree from EE department are expected to play leadership roles in research and development in various disciplines of EE either in industry or in academic institutes.

PhD programmes are available in all five specializations as mentioned above for MTech.

Program Overview

M.Tech program in Industrial Mathematics and Scientific Computing is a unique program that provides the student rigorous training in computational science, mathematics and statistics with a strong focus on modelling, simulating and solving problems of relevance to the industry. The blue-ribbon program has been successful in attracting top quality students and companies for more than 20 years. The curriculum aims at inculcating strong foundations in linear algebra, statistics, optimisation, data analysis, visualisation, numerical methods and programming. Students learn to work together in teams and are trained to effectively communicate their mathematical and technical training.

  • Shortlisting (Based on UG/PG and GATE scores)
  • Online interviews of shortlisted candidates

Recommendation for admission will be based on Interview Performance and UG/PG/GATE Marks as may be applicable. Candidates with more than 10 years after their qualifying degree will have to take an online test (in lieu of a written test). Final admissions is incumbent upon producing satisfactory certificates and other documents as the case may be, to the administration.
