About IIITM Gwalior
Indian Institute of Information Technology and Management (IIITM) in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh is an autonomous institute set by Government of India, MHRD (Presently Ministry of Education, Govt. of India) in 1997. It is an effort by MHRD (Presently Ministry of Education, Govt. of India) towards creating professionals in areas of management and information technology from the same institute. This institute was created for facilitating higher education, research, and consultancy in areas of information technology (IT) and business management. Initially started as IIITM, this institute was prefixed with ABV in 2002 to honour the then Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee.
ABV-IIITM is located on Morena Link Road at a distance of about 3.5km and 8.5km from Gwalior railway station and Rajmata Vijay Raje Scindia city airport respectively. Its location at the foothills of Gwalior fort is idyllic for an institute of this stature. Though it is not far from city centre it has a tranquil ambiance as desired of an academic institute. With nearly four-fifths of the institute covered with greenery, the environment is pristine and tranquil. Together with academics it offers an ideal surrounding for extra-curricular activities.
The institute is easily accessible by road, and there are cabs and auto-rickshaws to commute from railway station or airport. Shopping centres and market places are located nearby and about ten minutes driving distance away.

B Tech in Computer Science & Engineering
Integrated Post Graduate – IPG
Outline
This is a 5-year or 10 semester course leading to: B.Tech + M.Tech in IT (information technology); or B.Tech (IT) + MBA. The first 6-semesters cover the B.Tech curriculum while the remaining 4 semesters could be focused on either M.Tech or MBA. Candidates opting for M.Tech are entitled to stipends.
Focus
This 5-year IPG was initiated to offer a synchronized curriculum covering facets of IT and management. Keeping in line with market requirements it is essential to groom professionals who are adept in handling demanding management or IT issues. This course has been particularly designed to address situations that demand a comprehensive solution synchronizing management and IT. Candidates after successful completion of this study course are expected to tackle specific requirements in resource optimization and integration of existing and new technologies.
Modality
A student to be awarded with this dual degree must earn 240 credit points from ten semesters. However, the quantum of credit points required to qualify for the 4-semesters leading to M.Tech or MBA solely lies at the discretion of the institute.
5 Year IMT – B.Tech + M.Tech
Objective of this 5-year course is to create professionals who are capable of integrating technologies of different levels for offering competitive edge to industrial processes and business. Candidates after successful completion of this 5-year program are typically engaged in database management systems, computer networking, software engineering, and multimedia applications.
5 Year IMM – B.Tech + MBA
This 5-year integrated program is particularly aimed at creating professionals who not only are efficient business managers but also capable of providing viable solutions integrating business and IT. With a comprehensive knowledge about marketing, finance, human resources, and business operations these candidates are typically engaged in SCM (supply chain management), ERP (enterprise resource planning), CRM (customer relationship management), IT strategy, and e-Commerce.
Admission
Admission to this 5-year IPG is through JEE (Mains) held annually, and subsequent CSAB (Central Seat Allocation Board) counseling.
Post Graduate – M.Tech
Outline
ABV-IIITM being a premier IT and management institute lays special emphasis on M. Tech programmes. Post graduate study course is designed to address the demands of present generation digital world either in the form of academics or corporate engagements.
In keeping with the vision of ‘Global Excellence in Knowledge Economy’ the institute has devised teaching and research programmes that focus on different technological, industrial and commercial domains. Study courses are designed so as to offer solutions in a scenario of emerging technologies in local, regional, national and international levels.
This is a 4-semester program ideally completed in two years leading to M.Tech degree. Candidates pursuing M.Tech degree are entitled to monthly stipend payable as per Ministry of Education, Govt. of India norms and subject to fulfilling academic requirements as set by ABV-IIITM from time to time.
Objective
The objective of this post graduate course is to create experts and professionals in information technology with a view on developing skills that are able to match the demands of the complexities of present generation IT industry. Under present circumstances it is essential to have technologies that are sharp and purposeful. Our M.Tech program is aimed at developing experts with foci on technical capabilities and managerial abilities.
Focus areas
ABV-IIITM offers 4-semsester M.Tech programs, ideally completed in two years, in areas of:
• M Tech. Digital Communication
• M Tech. Computer Networks
• M Tech. VLSI (Very large scale integration)
• M Tech. Information security
The first two semesters are dedicated for course work while the reminder two semesters are meant for thesis assignments.
- Tech Digital Communication
Fundamentally this area focuses on different forms of digital communication either in form of mobile phones, e-mails, or video broadcasts. The essence of this course lies in digitisation of information and its high speed transmission using minimum power and in minimum time. Students have the opportunity to excel in either R &D or industrial set ups as per choice. Wireless and mobile communication, Networking, Error control, and Advanced Communication techniques are areas of expertise under this category.
- Faculty members of this stream include: Prof. Aditya Trivedi, Dr. K. V. Arya, Prof. S. Tapaswi and Dr. Wilfred Godfrey.
- Communication Systems laboratory in room C-115 and Data Communication laboratory in room C-003are dedicated for research in this area of specialization. Qualnet, MATLAB, DSP Tool, EXATA, and Labview are the software tools available in the labs.
- M.Tech graduates in this field could are typically absorbed by Amdocs, Infosys, KPIT Cummins, NTO, and TCS.
- Tech Computer Networks
This specialized area is aimed at developing an analytical understanding of different forms of communication and synchronizing them with computer networks. This programme is directed at creating a logical understanding of latest networking technologies and their applications. Issues pertaining to LAN, WAN, Wireless Sensor networks, Data Centre networks, Soft computing and optimization are focussed upon in this field of specialization.

- Tech VLSI – Very Large Scale Integration
VLSI under M. Tech aims at exploring areas in system designing including algorithms, system architecture, hardware description languages, physical designing, simulation and synthesis, and verification or testing techniques. These skills are essential for solutions that are fast, reliable, and performance intensive.
- Prof G. K. Sharma, Dr. A. Srivastava, Dr. P. Srivastava, Dr. W. Godfrey, and Dr. Manisha Patanaik comprise the faculty of this stream.
- VLSI Design laboratory in room C-103, and Digital Logic Design laboratory in room no C-203 are dedicated for research in this area of specialization. Tanner Tool, Xilinx, Silvaco Device Simulator, and Cadence University package are software tools used research in these laboratories.
- Cadence, CG Corel El, HCL, ST Microelectronics, and Wipro are among the major recruiters of candidates acquiring M. Tech in this area.
- Tech Information Security
In this era of extensive data transmission and sharing over telecommunication and computing network involves the risk of data manipulation, damage, piracy, and even blackmailing. Under such a situation it is vital to secure information from any or all such threats. This area of specialization focuses on areas of cryptography, security testing and security management.

Admission to this course is through CCMT (Centralised Counselling for M. Tech) based on GATE score.
Post Graduate – MBA
Outline
This is a 4-semester program leading to MBA degree. The course has been designed keeping in mind the requirements of present day business trends and industrial outlook. In a situation of tough competition from a global viewpoint, it is essential to put in place business processes that make optimal use of available resources to yield viable results. ABV-IIITM meets this demand through creation of capable managers and professionals who are able to synchronize material, technological and human resources to provide solutions for betterment of business environment in entirety.
The institute follows an open policy on the number of intakes every year.
Focus
Candidates may opt for any one of the three under mentioned programs:
- General MBA with specialization in Human Resources, Marketing and Finance;
- MBA in ITES (Information Technology Enabled Services);
- MBA in Public Service Management and e-Governance
The objective of this study course in to create innovative professionals for functional areas like marketing, finance, human resources, and business operations. Current generation application areas include SCM (supply chain management), ERP (enterprise resource planning), CRM (customer relationship management), and e-Commerce.
Admission
Admission to this course is through written examination (CAT), group discussion and interview.
Fees (Likely to be revised)
- All fees are subject to change without notification and at the discretion of the institute.
- SC/ST candidates are exempt from tuition fees only.
- Being a completely residential institute hostel room charges and hostel mess fees are compulsorily payable by all students.
- Fees are payable in the form of DD payable to ‘Director, ABV-IIITM, Gwlaior’ or through bank challans deposited at Bank of India, IIITM Branch, Gwalior.
Doctoral Program – Ph.D
Outline
ABV-IIITM offers doctoral programs in areas of IT and management. Though there are no time restrictions for Doctoral programs, they are completed within 2-5 years. Candidates pursuing Ph.D programs are entitled to stipends depending on norms set by Ministry of Education, Govt. of India and subject to fulfilment of academic prerequisites as set by the institute from time to time.
Selection
A candidate to this program is selected on the basis of an entrance test and subsequent interview. One session begins from July and the other from January.
For Engineering and Technology
- Candidates must be holders of M.Tech/ M. S./ M.E. or equivalent in CSE (Computer Science and Engineering)/ IT (Information Technology)/ E & C (Electronics and Communication) degrees. They must also be holders of B. Tech/ B.E./ M.Sc/ MCA also in CSE/ IT/ E&C or equivalent.
- Candidates must be 1st class or its equivalent CGPA holder in both Undergraduate and Post Graduate examinations.
- Candidates to be considered for Doctoral programs at ABV-IIITM must have qualified for their Post Graduate degree through GATE; OR is a holder of GATE score.
For Management
- Candidates must be 1st class Masters Degree holders or its equivalent CGPA in any branch of Engineering/ Technology or Management. OR 1st class Master’s Degree holder or its equivalent CGPA in Science, Computer Science, Operations Research, Commerce or Economics with Statistics or Mathematics in Undergraduate level.
- Candidates must have qualified for MBA through CAT/MAT/C-MAT/JMET to be considered. For Ph. D programs at IIITM they must have qualified for MBA/ M. Sc/ M.Com and GATE/ NET.
- Candidates with M. Sc/ M. Com/ M. Phil degrees and having publications in leading international journals are also eligible for pursuing Doctoral degrees.
For Applied Sciences
- Candidates need to be 1st class Masters Degree holders or CGPA equivalent in Physics/ Mathematics/ Electronics/ Nano Technology; OR 1st class M. Tech in Computational Physics/ Computational Mathematics/ Nanotechnology/ Material Science.
- Candidates must have qualified for their Post Graduate program through GATE/ NET.
- Candidates holding M. Phil degree and having publications in international journals are also eligible to qualify for Ph. D programs.
For all three categories, candidates with Master’s Degree and having fellowship/ assistantship are preferred for Doctoral programs.
Relaxation to be provided to scheduled caste/ scheduled tribe/ other backward communities/ physically handicapped applicants as per norms set by Government of India.

Financial Assistance
Students pursuing M.Tech in Computer Science and Engineering and Doctoral programs are entitled to stipend. Stipend amount is payable as per norms of Ministry of Education, Govt. of India and subject to fulfilment of academic pre-conditions determined by ABV-IIITM.

Atal Bihari Vajpayee Indian Institute of Information Technology and Management (ABV-IIITM) has a well-equipped library with around 30000 books, 69 national and international journals, 55 magazines and 1050 completed theses, 18 online journals, 225 annual reports, 3021 CDs and DVDs and is subscribed to UGC-INFONET or INFLIBNET, DELNET, INDEST AICTE.
- Hostel
Hostels are equipped with all the basic amenities like a mess, computer network connected with wireless internet, reading room, games etc. Telephone facility is also available in all the hostels. A well-equipped gymnasium is also available in the hostel.
